Sail Camp - Intermediate Dinghy Sailing

This course is for those who have completed our Learn to Sail course and wish to develop intermediate sailing and seamanship skills. As with all Flying Fish courses we aim to provide quality education in a fun packed way.

Description

Dinghy Sailing Sydney Improve your basic sailing, develop new skills and enjoy a fun packed trainng experience. 

You will practice your sailing and racing skills in our singlehanders and then go on to develop your seamanship skills in our doublehanders. 

Our sailing camps are ideal for kids who are keen to learn as well as having fun.

Course programme

Mon    RYA Level 3 - Better Sailing 

AM    (10am to 1pm)

  • Course briefing, introductions
  • Theory: Recap, personal sailing gear, sun protection, seven common senses, points of sailing.
  • Rigging, sail off beach.
  • Follow my leader, 5 essentials coaching.  
  • Demonstrate dry capsize.  

PM     (2pm to 5pm)

  • Upwind and downind sailing exercises
  • Introduction to racing. Practice races. 

Tue     RYA Level 3 - Better Sailing Continued

AM    (10am to 1pm)

  • Theory: Recap, sail trim, rules of the road.
  • Coaching exercise - practice racing / triangular courses 

PM     (2pm to 5pm)

  • Off beach racing, seamanship exercises 
  • Racing and freestyle

Wed    RYA Seamanship Skills 

AM    (10am to 1pm)

  • Theory: Anchoring, reefing, coming alongside. 
  • On water coaching exercises

PM     (2pm to 5pm)

  • Theory: Man overboard, sail to a mooring. 
  • Coaching exercises for above. 
  • Capsize recovery  

Thu     RYA Seamanship Skills  Continued

AM    (10am to 1pm)

  • Theory: Weather for sailors, Essential knots.
  • Coaching exercises- Seamanship skills

PM     (2pm to 5pm)

  • Coaching exercise – Racing and seamanship races.

Sailing location 

The course is based in an absolutely spectacular setting at Middle Harbour Yacht Club on Sydney Harbour. 

The weather is generally warm, sunny and windy and the sailing area is extensive with plenty of stunning beaches just a short sail away . 

Equipment and staff

Our training fleet includes Laser Pico single-handers and Laser Bahias, (two person dinghies with trapeze and asymmetric spinnakers). We also have a range of paddleboards and windsurfers.

Our instructors are qualified as well as friendly, experienced and professional.

Before you start

This course is suitable for basic sailors who have completed our level 1 and 2, learn to sail course or who have equivalent experience.

Suitable for ages 12 to 18. 

You should be able to swim 50 m.
