Sail Camp

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the exciting sport of dinghy sailing. It is an intensive, fun packed programme for beginners

Join us for a fun packed week on the water.

Our sailing camps are ideal for kids who are keen to learn as well as having fun.

Course programme

Mon    AS Start Sailing (level 1)

AM    (10am to 1pm)

  • Course briefing, introductions
  • Theory: What to wear whilst sailing. Sun protection, buoyancy, safety first. 
  • Rigging, launching, joyride and orientation 
  • Reaching course, going about 

PM     (2pm to 5pm)

  • Land drills for tacking, practice tacking 
  • Sailing upwind and the ‘No go zone’
  • Practice sailing upwind and tacking 

Tue     AS Start Sailing (level 1) Continued

AM    (10am to 1pm)

  • Theory:  five essentials of sailing, sailing downwind and gybing, rules of the road.
  • Coaching exercise - practice 5 essentials / practice upwind and tacking

PM     (2pm to 5pm)

  • Theory: points of sail, capsize drill. 
  • Coaching exercise – reaching course practice tacking and gybing
  • Sail triangular course 

Wed    AS Basic Skills (level 2)

AM    (10am to 1pm)

  • Theory: recap points of sail and five essentials. How a sail works.
  • On water coaching exercises, improving tacking and gybing

PM     (2pm to 5pm)

  • Theory: racing the course and starting procedures
  • Coaching exercises– racing
  • Capsize recovery  

Thu     AS Basic Skills (level 2) Continued

AM    (10am to 1pm)

  • Theory: Weather for sailors, Essential knots.
  • Coaching exercises- basic seamanship skills

PM     (2pm to 5pm)

  • Coaching exercise – Racing and seamanship races  

Fri     Intro paddleboard and regatta day

AM    (10am to 1pm)

  • Rigging and equipment 
  • Paddleboard intro session 

PM     (2pm to 5pm)

  • Regatta / team event
  • Course debrief, certificates, prizegiving

Sailing location 

The course is based at Middle Harbour Yacht Club on Sydney Harbour. The club is in an absolutely spectacular setting and is also home to the Australian Olympic Sailing Team.

The weather is generally warm, sunny and windy and the sailing area is extensive with plenty of stunning beaches just a short sail away . 

Equipment and staff

Our training fleet includes Laser Pico single-handers and Laser Bahias, two person dinghies with trapeze and asymmetric spinnakers. We also have a range of paddleboards and windsurfers.

Our instructors are qualified as well as friendly, experienced and professional.

Introduction to Windsurfing and SUP

Before you start

This course is suitable for complete beginners aged 12 to 18. 

You should be able to swim 50 m.
