- How do I secure my booking?
- To arrange your charter, use the enquiry button at the top of this page. Once your date and price are confirmed, a 20% deposit secures your booking. The balance is due 60 days prior to the charter. Deposits are non-refundable but transferable.
- How many people can the yacht accommodate?
- SV Arctos can accommodate up to 10 people on board plus the instructor and mate.
- Yacht specification
- SV Arctos is a 55 ft offshore racing yacht, purpose-built and over-engineered for Southern Ocean conditions. She is cutter rigged, with a length of 55 ft, beam of 12 ft, and draft of 9 ft. The yacht is powered by a Yanmar 55 hp saildrive engine, with 150 litres of fuel and twin 125-litre freshwater tanks.
- Internally, Arctos has 10 sea berths, watertight bulkheads throughout, and a single enclosed head. She is fully set up for offshore operations, with a gas stove, Raymarine C60 chart plotter and instruments, AIS, HF and VHF radio systems, and extensive electrical capacity via four 200 Ah gel cell batteries.
- Designed for serious offshore sailing, Arctos carries Hood 12 oz Southern Ocean–specification sails with all headsails hanked on, and is fitted with manual and electric bilge pumps serving four watertight compartments. The yacht is equipped with ISAF Category 1 safety equipment and is approved for training offshore by both AMSA and the RYA.
- Can I arrange my own itinerary?
- Yes. Subject to weather, sea conditions, and operational constraints, the skipper can adapt the itinerary to suit the objectives and experience level of your group.
- Can we bring food and drinks?
- Yes. You are welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks.
- Is swimming allowed?
- Swimming may be possible at suitable locations and conditions, at the skipper’s discretion. Please note that Arctos is primarily an offshore race yacht rather than a swimming platform.
- What should we wear?
- Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and flat non-marking shoes are recommended. Warm layers and wet-weather gear are advisable. Lifejackets are provided and may be required at the skipper’s discretion.
- What safety equipment is carried?
- SV Arctos is fully equipped with ISAF Category 1 safety and communications equipment, suitable for offshore sailing and compliant with relevant AMSA and RYA requirements.
- What happens if the weather is poor?
- If conditions are unsafe or unsuitable, we will work with you to reschedule the charter or offer an appropriate alternative.
