Description

The course complies with Australian workplace First Aid regulations and also meets the requirements of the RYA and AMSA for First Aid on board a boat.

The programme has been designed specifically to focus on First Aid situations in a marine setting.

By the end of the day, you will be able to identify life-threatening conditions, perform CPR, and be prepared to help a casualty in an emergency.

Course content 

  • First priorities, assessment and immediate action
  • Contents of a first aid kit
  • ABC, CPR, defibrillation
  • Handling casualties
  • Control of bleeding /bandaging
  • Amputation
  • Allergies, asthma attacks, diabetic emergencies and epilepsy
  • Anaphylactic shock
  • Awareness of CAT drugs
  • Head injuries, spinal injuries, fractures
  • Shock
  • Heart attacks, Angina, Stroke
  • Burns, electric shock
  • Choking, seasickness, hypothermia

Course programme

There are 4 parts to the programme 

  1. Pre-study and assessments
  2. Theory training 
  3. Practical training
  4. Assessment for both knowledge and skills

Instruction and location 

The programme is run by a very experienced paramedic in association with our training partners at TCP.

You will be based in our waterside classroom and have access to Flying Fish training vessells for practical scenarios.

Qualifications

  • TCP Provide First Aid 
  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (includes HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support)

The qualification is workplace approved in Australia and approved by the RYA for commercial use for Yachtmasters and watersports instructors in the UK and Europe.

 

Before you start

  • No previous experience is required.
  • The course is relevant to sailors, powerboaters, kayakers, windsurfers, kitesurfers, fishermen, and all who go afloat. 

What next?

  • You must re-validate this certificate every three years.
