Yacht Cruising Instructor
The RYA Cruising Instructor course is a requirement for commercial Yachtmasters to teach RYA courses up to Day Skipper level. Qualified instructors are in demand for work at RYA approved schools in Australia, the UK, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.
You spend five days living on board one of our Beneteau 40 foot training yachts in and around Sydney Harbour, the home of Flying Fish Australia.
Candidates operate in a role play scenario taking it in turns to practice in the role of instructor.
By the end of the course you will have a thorough understanding of the RYA training scheme and the coaching style that is the hallmark of Flying Fish.
Practical and theory instruction
The course will be run by an experienced RYA qualified trainer and moderated on the final day by a second independent trainer.
You will learn best practice for instructing a range of boat handling skills under both sail and power and develop techniques for teaching navigation, pilotage and safety and emergency procedures.
A yacht instructor will spend a proportion of his time teaching theory. You will learn how this is best packaged and delivered in an on board setting.
We take time to develop your understanding of the learning process and the different tools you can make use of to effectively coach your students. You will also learn to plan your training programme to deliver the syllabus in the time-frame.
